Abstract

Pyridinium tetrafluoroborate (C5H5NHBF4) and pyridinium hexafluorosilicate [(C5H5NH)2SiF6] have been prepared in good yields and high purity by the reaction of pyridinium poly(hydrogen fluoride) with oxides and acids of boron and silicon respectively. The salts have been characterised by melting points, IR, 1H and 19F NMR spectroscopy and chemical analysis.

  • Ammonium hexafluoridosilicates: Synthesis, structures, properties, applications

    2019, Journal of Fluorine Chemistry
    Citation Excerpt :

The vibrational spectra of the hexafluoridosilicate anion (Oh symmetry) are characterized by the presence of two vibrations active in the IR spectra, and three vibrations active in the Raman spectra [123]. Oscillations ν(SiF) and δ(SiF2) (F1u) are detected in the IR spectra of hexafluoridosilicates in the form of absorption bands around 730 and 470 cm–1 [19,21–23,27–29,32,34,36–38,40–44]. In turn, vibrations ν(SiF) (A1g), ν(SiF) (Eg) and δ(SiF2) (F2g) are recorded in the Raman spectra around 660, 470 and 400 cm–1 [28,45,61,62].
